Social Organizations

If we do not hang together, we shall surely all hang separately.---Benjamin Franklin

Menorah SociaLites. The Menorah SociaLites is the fun group of the Temple and is unique in that most of its activities are outside the Temple. It normally has one special outing each month. They typically go to plays, concerts, museums, and various ethnic restaurants. Recent events have included outings to the Northwestern University Waa-Muu show, the Spertus Museum, a Grant Park concert, and the Devonshire Playhouse. Favorite “in-Temple” activities include a Door County fish boil and a games night. Membership is $25 per year.

Sunday Morning Discussion Group. One of the more popular activities at Temple Menorah is the Sunday Morning Discussion Group. Meeting several Sunday mornings throughout the year, the group has a low-priced brunch at 10:00 a.m. followed by a lively discussion from 10:30 until noon on a wide variety of topics. Recent discussions have included such diverse topics as battered wives and children, world economics, health reform, and the Israeli-PLO peace initiative.

Youth Group. High school students enjoy the unstructured freedom and fun of the Temple Menorah Youth group. The group has get-togethers or outings at least once a month. Recent outings have included visits to Second City, Great America, and the Lazer Zone. Membership is free.

Board of Directors. While not a social organization, the Board of Directors is an organization that governs Temple life. Because of the small size of our congregation, and an eagerness to encourage the participation of new members, it is not unusual for new members to be asked to chair a committee, serve on the Board of Directors, or undertake a special project. All it takes is a willingness to be help and be involved.
